Long Run

About Long Run

The United States Pony Clubs, Inc., develops character, leadership, confidence and a sense of community in youth through a program that teaches the care of horses and ponies, riding and mounted sports.

History

Long Run Pony Club was founded just three years after the national organization, in 1957. It was originally part of the Bluegrass Pony Club. We draw our name from the Long Run creek, a tributary to Floyd’s Fork. The area was undeveloped at the time and home to hunt country. Nearby Anchorage Kentucky was home to summer homes, for those who wished to escape the summer heat of Louisville. For a time, members were from hunt country and Anchorage, and as development changed the landscape, so too has the club adapted to meet the needs of its members.  We invite alumni and particularly past leadership to reach out and share their photos and stories to be added to our history. Please reach out to us on the contact page.

Current Membership

Adult Membership: LRPC is the only Louisville based pony club or riding center with an established adult membership. Our adult members share their dedication to lifelong learning with one another at monthly unmounted meetings, learning how to be better equestrian athletes, and using the USPC curriculum to build and reinforce their horsemanship.

Junior Membership: LRPC junior members have proven competitive over the years in eventing and dressage. Our current programming for 2023-2024 school year includes basic equitation, cross country schooling, hunter jumper, and vaulting. Unmounted meetings are focusing on helping members level up” the USPC curriculum. In Spring, after Quiz Rally, our members will explore various professions that support our equestrian community.

USPC Pony Clubs and Riding Centers are assigned to one of 41 geographical regions, which are administered by a volunteer Regional Supervisor (RS) and other appointed and elected officers. Regions offer additional activities and opportunities for members and support for the club and center leaders under their administration. Long Run Pony Club is part of the Midsouth Region. Visit the region's website for the contact information for the Regional Officers.
